KIBBIE DOME

Kibbie Dome, home of the Idaho Vandals

Moscow, ID

The Kibbie Activity Center, also known as the Kibbie Dome is one of the most unique venues in college football. In the late 1960s fire destroyed the Vandals old stadium, Neale Stadium. Construction on a new stadium for the Idaho Vandals began soon after with William Kibbie leading the way by donating $300,000 for construction in 1969. Although it took over six years to complete the Kibbie Dome opened on September 27, 1975 when Idaho played Idaho State.

It is a very small indoor stadium. The Kibbie Dome has a seating capacity of nearly 16,000 with seating on both sides of the gridiron. One of the most unique features about the Kibbie Dome is the playing field. Originally Astroturf, but replaced by RealGrass Pro in 2007, the field can be rolled in and out from the west side of the stadium to allow for other events to take place at the dome. Currently the Kibbie Dome is the smallest stadium in Division 1 football. However in December 2007, the State Board of Education approved funding for improvements and expansions to the Kibbie Dome. This $52 million project would include lowering the playing field to increase the seating capacity to 20,000. New for the 2013 season is a 30 feet by 50 feet HD video/scoreboard, replacing the existing one in the east endzone. The old scoreboard will be relocated to the west end.
