Unless you are a Wyoming Cowboys fan, there is one song you will never hear played anywhere else, the “Beer Song.” Only at War Memorial Stadium will you hear fans screaming for the band to play, “In Heaven There is No Beer.” Home of the Wyoming Cowboys, War Memorial Stadium is the oldest stadium in the Mountain West Conference. Construction on a new stadium for the Cowboys began in 1949 as the football program grew and replaced Corbett Stadium. Named War Memorial Stadium, the Cowboys played their first game here on September 16, 1950.

War Memorial Stadium originally had a seating capacity of 20,000, with single deck grandstands on both sides of the playing field. In 1970, the upper deck and press box was added on the west side of the stadium increasing the seating capacity by 5,000. Eight years later, in 1978, a press box was added on the east side and bleachers were constructed in the north endzone. Very few changes have occurred at the stadium since 1978. Its basic shape with a small double decked grandstand on both sides of the gridiron has remained the same. In 2001 a new scoreboard was added and the bleachers in the north endzone were moved to the south endzone. The upper decks were renovated before the 2004.  After the 2004 season, the natural grass playing field was removed and replaced with FieldTurf. At an elevation of 7,220 feet above sea level, War Memorial Stadium is the highest Division 1 stadium in college football. The Cowboys have been very successful at the stadium winning 70% of their games there. In the future Wyoming would like to expand the stadium to include a better press box with luxury areas for fans.
